I Don't Want to End up in Prison in El Salvador
If you think you're safe from this, you're fooling yourself
Hello Friends,
We live in disturbing times. Recently, the United States of America deprived an innocent man of due process and sent him to a prison in El Salvador. The Supreme Court said that this was a mistake and that the government has to get him back.
The government just made it clear that they're not going to get him back.
So, here we are.

There are many people who read this news while drinking their morning cup of coffee before work. They think to themselves, “Well, why should I care?”
Why should you care?
They think their fancy flavored latte is going to be within easy reach for the rest of their life. They're already looking forward to coming home and watching the next show on whatever streaming service they prefer.
They think all of this is guaranteed.
Right up until the moment they're pulled over and deported without a trial. If you think that can't happen, you're wrong.
It is happening.
It is happening in the United States of America right now.
It could happen to you.
It's tragic that human beings often don't care about danger until they see how that danger might apply to them. They're content to think that people who are hungry “have it coming” or “they're lazy” or any other of a million cruel justifications.
They think that people who get arrested, “must have done something wrong.”
But if there is no due process, you don't have the opportunity to defend yourself. You're just picked up, slapped in handcuffs, put on a plane, and sent to a labor camp.
I think there are people out there who think they're “safe” because they voted for this regime. But you should set down that latte for a second and consider the MAGA supporters who have already lost their jobs. Think of the ones that are about to lose their farms because the federal subsidies they relied on have been eliminated.
Think of all the people who are hurting right now.
The number is growing daily.
Pretty soon the forces of hate and oppression will come knocking on your door.
I don't want to end up in a prison camp in El Salvador. I haven't done anything wrong. My family hasn't done anything wrong.
But the current presidential administration tosses around the word “terrorist” like a beauty queen tossing candy from a float in a parade.
We don't have due process anymore remember? All it takes is for some official in that administration to look at you askew, point a finger, utter the command, and you're gone!
How's your Spanish?
We all might want to sit down and learn Spanish since it feels like we'll all be residents of El Salvador pretty soon.
The question we're facing right now is: who is next? Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are out there drawing huge crowds.
At what point does the current president declare them to be “terrorists” and have them shipped off? Who would stand up for them if this happened? Would the media? Would the supreme court? Would the military?
No, no, no.
Perhaps the scariest part for me is that I honestly don't know what's stopping him at this point. He keeps testing the waters. He keeps seeing what he can get away with. The answer is everything.
He gets away with everything.
Yet, people still think they're safe because they can wake up in the morning, read a newspaper, sip at an expensive coffee, and read the propaganda that tells them the people being deported are “bad.”
The propaganda doesn't say why they're bad. It doesn't provide any evidence. But Americans don't need proof to hate.
The problem is, neither does the government they elected.
And sooner or later everybody is going to be noticed.
Everybody is going to be punished.
Six months ago, I was making plans to send my children to college. I was looking forward to enjoying their high school experience. I was trying to figure out how to best support them so they had the best chance of a prosperous future.
Today, I'm sitting here worried that the secret police will knock down my door and send me off to rot in prison in El Salvador.
Meanwhile, a huge portion of America is passively reading the news because they've convinced themselves that everything is fine.
Everything is not fine.
Everything is really, really bad.

If you want to avoid this whole thing, move to Canada. You'd never catch our government doing any of this crap.
Damn, as they push us further and further, they increase the likelihood that violent pushback may become necessary. That is not how things are supposed to work here in the Land of the Free. Just another unprecedented way MAGA is destroying all that we have built. Wishing you and your family well, Walter. All of us, too.
