What Has the Political Right Ever Done to Stop Human Trafficking?
The left is populated with unheralded warriors who save their speeches for courtrooms and who fight for us every day
Hello Friends,
Yesterday I was sick to my stomach to read about the passing of former US Attorney Jessica Aber. I came across one of her social media posts where she discussed the incarceration of an individual who had been involved with child sex trafficking. Here's more on the story she referenced in that post.
In reading that story, it occurred to me that for all the ranting and raving the political right does about “protecting us from predators,” you almost never see stories about anyone in that movement that actually prosecutes abusers.
In fact, when the right is involved with a story about predators, it's usually about their efforts to bring more of them to the United States.
Jessica Aber was appointed by Joe Biden, and everything I've read about her indicates she worked tirelessly to protect the American people from various forms of criminal behavior and corruption. She stepped down on January 20th, 2025 because apparently she didn't feel like her form of activism was welcome in the current administration.
On March 23rd 2025, she was found dead at age 43.
There are all sorts of ways that the media could choose to approach this story. They could celebrate her life and her accomplishments. They could hold her up as a fearless example of somebody who dedicated her life to protect the innocent and the vulnerable from oppression.
Instead, there are a lot of comments like, “Let's wait and see what the investigation says.”
It feels like this is a story that's getting brushed under the rug.
We need to be asking why such a capable and effective attorney would feel the need to resign in light of the current presidential administration. I have my own suspicions as to why that would happen, but I feel Jessica Aber's accomplishments and her sudden passing warrant some comment from people in positions of government.
She should be celebrated and revered for the lengths she went to in order to protect the marginalized and the oppressed.
Instead, I’m seeing innocent protestors referred to as “terrorists” and congresswomen being threatened.
The government should be arresting human traffickers, not college students who are carrying cardboard signs.
Throughout the last four years, right-wing ideology has been critical of what they call the “weaponization” of the US legal system. Without evidence, they often insist the left has been using the courts to unfairly attack its political opponents.
Leading up to the 2024 election, right wing personalities have warned that there would be “retribution” against prominent people working in the American legal system. Right wing personalities have been saying things like, “The hunted are about to become the hunters.”
For me, such statements are dangerous, dishonest, and they represent a complete lack of decorum.
Additionally, when you say something like that, you better get down on your knees and pray that nothing bad befalls any of your political opponents for any reason only a few months after a member from your political ideology takes power.
Now, I'm not accusing anyone of having anything to do with this. To my knowledge, there has been no investigation.
I am saying that the political right needs to tone down its hate inciting rhetoric.
Any group that routinely engages in threatening and hateful language deserves to answer for that language when something bad happens. This is the very reason we should practice respect and decorum. It's because if you constantly stomp around threatening people, you make yourself an object of suspicion when tragedy happens.
Human life is filled with tragedy. People pass away unexpectedly all the time. People hit hard times. This is why we need to respect and care for each other. This is why we need to celebrate the achievements of intelligent and dedicated people who are out there working hard to protect us.
We shouldn't vilify them.
It's shameful that Jessica Aber felt the need to resign her position on January 20th. It's a tragedy that she has passed away. She represents everything that's best about this country.
Kamala Harris, too, helped pass a bill to help the survivors of sex trafficking. “Protecting women” is always a rallying call of the political right, but what do they actually do? Where are the bills they pass that actually help women?
It seems to me that all they do is restrict women's rights, and pressure effective and accomplished attorneys to resign.
Then, when something bad happens to a political opponent of the right, the right shrinks away. They act like they're the victims because we all remember the horrible things they say.
My condolences go out to the friends and family of Jessica Aber. The more I read about her, the more I recognize that she was a great champion of human rights. This is a person I never knew, but I shed tears for her yesterday, and I will feel her absence from this day forward.

What a world we live in, to lose someone who did much for others and contributed positively to our nation like Jessica Aber, while the grifters, cheats, and sociopaths go merrily onward, seemingly with impunity and malevolence toward humanity. I will never understand why this happens.
I am troubled about the same things you said. I think Trump killed his ex wife and Jeffrey Epstein. I've studied several unintended deaths and it stinks to high heaven
