Why You Must Stop Normalizing the Idea That the Midterms Will Be Canceled
Quit doing the legwork for the tyrants and lend your strength to the resistance
Hello Friends!
Almost every time I write an article about how Republicans are going to face accountability in the midterms, I get the same tired old replies.
“Republicans are emboldened because they don’t think there will be any midterms.”
“Elections? Do you really think there’s going to be another election?”
“You’re naive aren’t you?”
I get that people are scared. I get that people are expressing their anxiety on social media. But I also think it’s really important that we all get on the same page.
If you’re one of those people who has cultivated a “why bother?” attitude because you think all is already lost, then kindly keep your thoughts to yourself. There are other people out there who are still fighting to save our society, and we have enough problems without you trying to cut down our momentum.
The philosophy that’s served me well throughout my life is to only worry about the things that I can control. If I started fretting about everything I can’t control, I’d never get out of bed in the morning.
I’d be surrendering my power.
See how that works?
Don’t be tricked by defeatist thoughts into surrendering your power.
As far as I’m concerned, we shouldn’t even waste one second worrying about the possibility that there won’t be any more elections. That idea is absolutely absurd. The clown show administration currently attempting to dismantle our country doesn’t even know how to organize a group chat. Do you really think they’re going to deprive all Americans of their fundamental voting rights?
Please.
The entitlement of this fear is frankly embarrassing. Are you seriously so self-absorbed that you think this is the worst crisis the United States has ever faced? Do yourself a favor, go and pick up a history book and read about the Civil Rights era.
Go and talk to some people who grew up when American schools were still segregated. It wasn’t that long ago. As bad as it is today, the incompetent TACO regime does not have the power to restore absolute authoritarianism to these shores in two brief years of bumbling ineptitude.
They aren’t going to cancel the elections. That’s never been their plan.
Now, they will try to rig the elections because that’s what Republicans always do. They’ll try to purge voter rolls. They’ll try to invalidate ballots. They’ll try to gerrymander districts because the Republicans know now what they’ve always known… they can’t win unless they cheat.
Yes, they’ve got all sorts of disenfranchisement initiatives in place. They’re a bunch of busy little beavers who are always at work to make life harder for everyone. But the reason they’re launching all these ideas is because they are afraid of the election.
They are very, very afraid.
They’re out over their skis and they know it. They’re scrambling to tilt the scales, but it’s not going to happen.
There is no future when the citizens of the United States of America will sit quietly and allow our collective right to vote to be taken away. Yes, to our everlasting shame, citizens of this country do allow certain groups to be disenfranchised. But everybody?
That’s not going to happen.
However, when people run around acting like it is possible to cancel elections, they’re doing the work of the tyrants for them.
QUIT NORMALIZING THE IDEA OF ELECTION CANCELATION!
If you’re going to speak or type or influence the people around you in any way, then remind them that Americans will not tolerate having our rights taken away.
At this moment in history, the side of reason has limited power. Our greatest power right now is our messaging.
We have to constantly remind Republicans that they will be held accountable for their crimes when rational people take back control of our government.
If you’re walking around spreading the conspiracy theory that there won’t be an election, you’re only going to embolden the criminal Republicans. And yes, as bad as things are right now they can always get worse.
You need to be more responsible!
Fill the airwaves with warnings about what will happen when the time of accountability returns. Let Republicans know that the Nuremberg defense will not save them. Let them understand that they better obey the law because the guy who is protecting them now isn’t always going to be there.
It’s much more effective to speak about judgment day than it is to stand around quaking in your boots with defeatist messaging.
We’re going to have an election.
We’re going to win the Senate and the House.
We’re going to elect Kamala Harris as the Speaker of the House.
We’re going to impeach the President and Vice President.
We’re going to be swearing in President Harris in January of 2026.
That’s our plan. Don’t waste my time with your naysaying. Don’t tell me it “isn’t possible.”
Let’s try!
Let’s shoot for the stars!
It’s only one life. Let’s go for it. Let’s demand universal healthcare and universal education. Let’s assume it is possible to defeat cruelty and hatred and ignorance once and for all.
If you have energy, then help me in this cause!
Don’t waste your energy telling me to stop. Either be part of the solution or get out of the way.
We ARE having an election in 2026. That’s all there is to it.
Believe me, it feels much better to turn your anxiety into positive action than it is to sit around and allow yourself to be paralyzed with fear.
sent me this wonderful link about the other actions we can take. The current administration is committing crime after crime in plain sight. There is evidence everywhere. Don’t play into their hand by expressing your fears about how there will never be accountability.
Instead, keep a record of their wrongdoing. Until we have political power all we have is messaging. Let’s make the deliberate choice to emphasize that a day of accountability is inevitable.

Great post, Walter, and very true. I think so many people are throwing in the towel way too early. Yes, there will be elections, and I look forward to voting clowns out of office.
I agree, Walter, that an “all is lost” attitude is a self-fulfilling prophecy. As you indicated we should keep our eyes open. So many distractions are thrown our way that we might miss some serious things. That’s intentional, of course. I don’t believe the country has yet realized the ramifications of data collection that the Trump regime is contracting with a company called Palantir. The aim is for the White House to have all information about each person stored in individual files. The potential for abuse is obvious. The company is connected with Musk, and it’s been speculated that DOGE was collecting data for this purpose. This is not a conspiracy theory. It is chilling. I point you to one resource out of many. What do you think?
