So true and MUST BE SAID!!!! We should allow parents/families whose child is a victim of gun violence TO SPEAK OUT AS LONG AND LOUD AS THEY FEEL LIKE IT - on venues and programs where they will be HEARD!!!
There is no “better time to talk about it” -
NOW IS THE TIME TO SPEAK the truth and reality of having unlimited guns run amok!
We, absolutely, should all be allowed our voice, our truth. No one has our perspective nor our exact feelings in a particular space. Speak freely and honestly done with love. Thank you, Walter!
Brilliant Walter. As a teacher of thirty years, I can tell you that the public has no idea how terrifying it is to kiss your kids goodbye, send them to a possible shooting situation, and travel to another possible shooting situation every day. It's scary to think about not returning home to the sweet faces of the children I carried for 7-9 months, stared at the ceiling while doctors sliced into my body and struggled to bring forth each sweet, innocent human being who I had harbored in my womb and then delighted in raising to their present self. What will happen to them without me? I have been their biggest champion since their conception. How will my kind, laid-back husband ever be able to pick up my responsibilities? How many people have to think of being shot dead every day at work while they are trying to protect other parents' children? Can you imagine how much someone might be offered to work in this capacity? In addition, the job would require the individual to educate the children of those other parents who will debate any poor performance recorded by their darling child, which will result in them requesting a “meeting” with the “Educator and Protector” of their child. What transpires in “The Meeting”? The parent of the errant child yells at the child’s “Educator and Protector” for their child’s failing. DOES ANYBODY REALLY WONDER WHY MOST DEDICATED EDUCATORS ARE LEAVING THE TEACHING PROFESSION??!!
You are right, Walter! The terrified, cowering white Republicans want the United States public to be illiterate idiots. They are following in the footsteps of that great world leader, ahem, Adolf Hitler. If the public remains stupid, the government can do anything they want. Read Bradbury’s, “Fahrenheit 451”, a novel I taught almost every year I taught in the public school system.
Also, can we take a look at where Trump is getting his ideas for persecuting the American people? Stephen Miller, master of, “Take the Immigrants’ Children Away From Them at the Border”. There are still children who have not been returned to the right parents, and fun fact, MILLER’s parents are immigrants‼️ What a jerk!!! RUSSELL VOUGHT, the “money man” who is rumoured to be behind the whole money cuts mess! We need to get them out before they steal all the money we’ve all paid into Social Security, etc.
Your podcast was very apropos and necessary! Thank you. (Sorry about all the exclamation marks. I'm just so frustrated. Why don't people educate themselves?)
Oh my, Walter, I have asked this same question hundreds of times. Show me the carnage, the pain, the suffering and force us all to face the reality of what the reality of guns brings to all.
Stop showing the flowers, candles, teddy bears, and certainly the absolutely useless “thoughts and prayers.” In my book, My Curious Life, I explain to my grandkids, and all readers really, the reality of the injury and fatality we experience in this country every year - all because guns are allowed and, worse yet, when used to kill and maim, the wreckage is covered up with “thoughts and prayers.”
Here is a short excerpt to help readers to become more sensitive to the reality.
“I would like to give you one thought that you can use as an argument for those who tout "Second Amendment Rights" above all other rights that we, as Americans, enjoy in this great country. The "second amendment rights" folks, mostly white men, have won. The gun lobby has won, the NRA has won, the gun manufacturers have won, the compromised or feckless politicians have won, the gun lovers and zealous gun owners have won - yes, they have all gotten their way. America now has more than 400 million guns in this country, including tens of million weapons of war - in the hands of everyone who wants one. Now my point: all of these folks need to now own their victory and the results it brings to us - the annual and continuing carnage that we experience every day - the collateral damage of friends, family, and other loved ones. Tens of thousands of innocents killed, maimed and otherwise affected by guns. Just think about a football stadium on January 1 filled with 60 or 70 thousand happy fans - women, men, children, babies, whites, blacks, Asians, Hispanics, old and young - happy, cheering, laughing, singing, just having a great time together. Now think about that same stadium on December 31, with everyone dead, ripped apart by bullets, blood everywhere, or wounded and maimed and screaming for help. This is what the "second amendment rights" folks and all of those who allowed this to happen need to own. I will leave it here for now, but you will hear it from me again when we have an opportunity to chat in more detail.”

Thank you for your lovely comment. No need to apologize about the exclamation marks! WE need that energy!

Well said.
I agree wholeheartedly with you!
As JulieS wrote… “Your rights STOP where others’ lives BEGIN!”
Thank you for speaking (writing) truth to their bs.
