As elementary school kids, aged 12 to 14, we had make-shift tents and slept in the garden with my brother. Fast forward: our two children did the same and enjoyed just as much as we used to. Fast forward again, and our grand children followed suit. There are simple joys in life you enjoy the same way up to age 80.
Not really having much in the way of parents myself, I truly derive vicarious joy from observing people who are great and nurturing parents, and that is you (and your wife), Walter. My next door neighbors camp out in the backyard with their young daughter and I so applaud and approve of both them and how you've written and shared this experience that I am forwarding your article to them. What a pleasure.
Great Job. As a dad we are asked to do a lot of things. Some we like, others maybe not as much. Many we have no clue how to do, but we will figure it out.
The greatest thing for a dad to hear, the single greatest mark of success are calls of ‘best day ever’, calls like that make every little struggle more manageable.
You definitely have your priorities in order, Walter! Such a delightful, well-written story……it brings back fond memories from my own childhood. The laughter, energy and enthusiasm that your daughters experienced brings a smile to my face. Thank you for sharing! 👍😊

Beautiful. I loved camping when I could climb in and out of the tent. Ah, the memories. We called it the tent of "screams and snores"
