Walter,

Reading this post, as a black person, all I can think of is "We are reverting back to the times of slavery."

I know a lot of people will also see my statement and consider it as hysterical and over the top. But stop and think about it:

1. You are taking away a persons rights to be a citizen. Slaves were not citizens when they were brought here or born here, they were merely property to be bought and sold.

2. They had no legal protections. If they were accused of anything, they were automatically considered guilty.

3. They were mercilessly abused without recourse.

4. They could be taken away from their families.

5. The federal government controlled everything about their lives without any means of relief. Slaves had no rights and therefore couldn't escape without penalty of death.

6. Children of slaves were born into slavery. perpetuating enslavement for future generations. A child born without citizenship means their children also are not citizens and have no rights.

7. It will create the mindset of people being born without citizenship as being subhuman. And we all know what happens when that's the case. This is what established the rationalization for slavery. Also, think about Hitler and the Holocaust. That should make things perfectly clear.

I am really disturbed by the fact that people ignore these things and consider it not a problem since it doesn't impact them. This isn't the time to ignore what is going on. I know several states have already filed suit against Trump on this topic. I hope beyond hope that the Supreme Court will do as they have promised and follow the Constitution. But we all know that it has been stacked in Trump's favor.

I'm furious with the people with a platform who claim to be on our side who haven't adequately conveyed how horrific this action is. I've been trying to forward this article to AOC. I trust her. She's about the only one at this point. Jasmine Crockett too.

I agree, someone needs to speak out publicly against this abhorrent policy. As you have shown, it's the women who are leading the charge against these things. And I believe if we had done the right thing and elected a woman as President, none of this would have ever happened. It's shameful.

I read a book on the Holocaust which talked about how the survival rate of victims correlates to whether the Nazis overthrew the existing government, stripping citizens of their national identities, or left the government structure in place and staffed it with sycophants. Where Nazis ran the state and stripped people of their citizenship, people were obliterated. I hate that I can’t remember which book it was because I feel the need to reread it.

Katherine,

Exactly. This is what people don't seem to understand. The US is on a very slippery slope into Fascism and no one in the government is blinking an eye. I recently watched the Netflix documentary about the Nuremburg trials and I see so many parallels between what happened with Hitler then in Germany and what is happening now.

Honestly, with Elon Musk doing the Nazis salute, why can't people see it for what it is instead of making excuses?

I don't think we can scream loud enough for people to actually listen. It's devastating, and we're only a week in to Trump's presidency. I didn't think we could withstand a 2nd Trump presidency then when Biden won, and I still believe that to be true.

I remembered the book: it’s Black Earth: The Holocaust as History and Warning by Timothy Snyder.

I’m trying not to scare myself with how this will end up, because I’m prone to depression and if I let myself, I’ll get crushed. But I agree it doesn’t look good.

Too bad they only care about the “unborn.” Once you’re out, you’re on your own!

that's true, but we have to ask them about that. We have to speak it more often.

"If you're spending energy demanding that you are not responsible for what's going on, then you're one of the bad people."

This is the energy we need right here. Thank you for this, I will personally be using this in every conversation about the utter destruction of human rights by this regime going forward.

It's possible to kidnap a teen outside America and smuggle her in a shipping container or with a false passport. Then, they set up a house where men get to use the underage girl for sex. When she becomes pregnant they have a law that requires her to carry the baby to birth. The baby was born inside the United States but was not given birthright citizenship - another child with no status at all. The people who trafficked human beings got more laws in their favor. How do you protect a baby with the same status as a stray kitten? Why would anyone want this to happen in their country?

Thank you! I agree with you.

There are SO many atrocities happening now. This is clearly illegal, not that that means shit under this dictatorship.

I'm concerned that it won't matter that it's illegal. We have to establish the message that the current presidential administration is helping child sex traffickers. That's a more powerful message. Thanks for the comment!

This is a constitutional issue. An executive order cannot change the constitution 😔

We must get this info out far and wide!

Last I heard, at least 23 states are suing over this issue.

That's true. But I also think we need to cover the fact that ending birthright citizenship makes it easier for child sex traffickers. Say those words. Nobody cares about the Constitution. We need to frame our argument in a way that shows how we need these protections to save babies from lives of torture.

I think you are right on that point too. That's why I shared your post and will continue to speak about this issue from both perspectives.
