From New York Stand-Up Comedian, to Published Author on Patreon

A conversation about the writer's journey with Reid Faylor and Libbie Grant

Hey Everyone!

This is the first time I tried to do a live in the evening. Mainly I do my lives in the morning because the kids are in school and I’m not so tired. But I was really excited to talk to Reid Faylor and Libbie Grant. So, I pushed through the distractions (the kids sound like a herd of horses running around upstairs), and the exhaustion (I’m old). I did okay, but my words got ahead of my brain a few times.

I heard about Reid Faylor because Libbie Grant is a HUGE fan of his audio book Dead Bird Songs.

You can read more about it on Reid’s web page.

I was captivated by Reid’s art which is very meticulous and kind of makes me think of Edgar Allan Poe. That’s a good atmosphere to be in. Reid’s imagery is the type of thing that would make for a stunning graphic novel. I always appreciate the overlap between art and writing.

As a writer, I’m always on the lookout for other publishing platforms. I’d heard of Patreon before, and this conversation gave the three of us a chance to brainstorm ways to leverage the best features of various platforms to grow your following. Libbie has worked with major publishers, but she also acknowledges that marketing is the real trick of this business.

I’m trying to convince Reid to come over to Substack, you can follow him here:

And here’s Libbie’s Substack:
