Walter,

From my perspective, we need ranked-choice voting to get people involved.

The 2 party system is not in the US Constitution. It makes decisions binary. "You're either with us or against us."

Unfortunately, the presidency is in the US Constitution. In a nation that considers itself "Divinely (Christian version) inspired," (a common theme on the Fourth of July).

Most stable democracies are parlimentary systems.

Some have kept a symbolic king. The last Norwegian king who actually ruled like one was King Harald, known as Hardrodda (hard ruler) Who tried to take England from the north weeks before William attacked from Normandy, but miscalculated and was killed in battle.

That was in 1066. The end of the Viking era.

Beginning of the Crusades, which are still marching on.

Fred

Yeah, they have been working to make our democratic nation as undemocratic as possible.

It's always fun and games until someone loses an eye.

Useful post today, Walter. And if you haven't listened to Jessie Wells' song "Horses," I recommend you do so. Similar theme. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWgxikK7WJQ

6 million Dems who voted in '20 didn't in '24. They didn't believe or they ran out of gas on the way to vote?

Or they did vote and the Republicans threw those votes away and the cowardly Dems who never fight for us didn't stand up to ensure all votes were counted.

Amazing article. So important. Perfectly laid out. My husband is good at talking to anyone. He likes to say, hey, none of us think that it's ok to spend $500 per toilet seat at the Pentagon. I'm a little too dug in, mainly because of the attacks on my rights as a woman. But you're so right and this is good advice. It's why I have been following Joe Walsh. I've seen others denounce him, but that's not helpful. Freedom is messy and we all have to be more tolerant if we want to maintain our individual freedom against the intolerant forces trying to rule over us.

If people are attacking you for your clear and logical explanations, I got nothin'. They are being their true selves.

Reacting by lashing out is the opposite of problem solving. It's momentarily cathartic but does squat for remediation.

I am big on assessing the situation and planning a way forward. I have zero tolerance for people demanding to know "how we got here." That is irrelevant. We ARE here. So, now, what next? What do we want tomorrow to look like and how will we effect that? That is today's problem, not "how we got here."

PS - I didn't read your whole column before writing this so ... now I will.

Thank you. I get it all the time and it's a reflection of our times. The forces of evil have brainwashed people into oppressing and exploiting the marginalized. They speak constantly. We just have to resist and wade through it. Thanks!

Very well written and to the point. Your thought processes make perfect sense. It might just swing some in voters or on the fence voters to vote blue. We are banking on having elections. Hopefully we do.

Yes, there can be no other future but one with elections.

Sorry- mis-spelled. Should be "Hardraada." "aa" being the substitute for that "å" that doesn't exist in English.

My mother's grandparents name was Lofsgaarden. Changed to Gorden. Some of my grandmother's siblings went by Gordon.

We Norwegian types. I don't know why the Nazis wanted them. Optics, I guess.

On a related note, optics are everything today. A person can be so stupid to say something like, "I can fake smart."

And that person can assume a role of leadership.

They all are and they all did.
