I see sports as equipment heavy sports as just another corporate grab. I prefer those requiring little to no equipment,… well, except mountain biking. I do have a bike! They last forever. Hiking, walking, swimming. Tennis at one time in my life.
I think cross-country skiing is relatively light on equipment. It’s comparable to mountain biking, but in either of those sports you can get caught up and end up spending a lot. My wife laughs at the number of sport specific shoes I have :)
Yes, I’ve enjoyed x-country skiing and snowshoeing. Technically, non-group or potentially solo sports are for me. Equipment heavy goes with a kind of group think I detest,… and yes,… a territorialism and branding mentality that is socio-culturally unhealthy IMHO.
The equipment is exactly what turned me off to skiing! And to other equipment heavy sports.
Yes, these days even running is expensive. It's funny how people become territorial over their brands :)
