Thank you for this summary of your strategies. It is intensely practical. This article feels like having a coffee with a fellow journalist who discusses the transitions and lessons of ramping up to the online business models. I agree that I've had to dial up my already-excellent bullshit sniffer to get past the writer who waves the flag of professionalism and then delivers a weekly newsletter that is a sales page, which belongs on their website.

Medium got so much money off the back of the "writers" pedaling pyramid schemes that they forgot that they are/were supposed to be about journalistic and creative expression online.

Very informative. I branched off into Medium and Substack a couple of years ago when I read an article by another author who pointed out the traffic on these platforms gives me a much better chance of being discovered than on my author domain site. Made sense to me. Over time I chose to focus on Substack. I haven't made the leap to paid subscriptions yet, but that's the next step.

Hey Walter, I can design a Kofi banner for you. The one isn't crisp and clear. Do you want one just in blue?

You can download it and then add it to your post via Kofi too? let me know if you have any specific design wishes. I can also write a post about it. Hugs! Will restack your post, love, Kristina

Oh, yes, that would be wonderful! I’d appreciate that, and yes, it would be a great post! I just did a screen shot from the Ko-Fi page. They have code for buttons you can download, but I couldn’t seem to get the fancy code to work on Substack (but I didn’t try that hard). I just took a screen shot of the button and linked it to my Ko-Fi page :)
