Lol! This was great. So relatable. Our Pepita used to be a runner when we first adopted her. I have chased her down streets in my socks at least 5 times. She had a habit of making a break for it anytime the door was opened and we weren't watching her intently (she's tiny enough to get past your legs and out a mildly cracked door). She made a game of running away from me and eventually complying with my demands to stop, laying down, and rolling over on her back and shivering guiltily. She's better now, but I still don't put it past her and grab her up anytime the yard gate is opened. Dogs: impossible and wonderful!

The running away game is both cute and frustrating :) They do help us put the problems of the world in perspective. I always feel better after playing with my dog.

Absolutely! In fact, I adopted Tito in January 2017, to help me manage the depression of the election. He absolutely saved me :).

I loved your story and reminded of the few times one of my great pyres had escaped the yard.Thank goodness that both of our stories had happy endings! How I wish doggies knew that it’s not safe to walk in the street!

They think it's a "fun game" to be chased :)

There is little that is as horrifying and heart-stopping as having a beloved dog make a get-away like that! In retrospect it’s often funny, but at the time? Not so much! Glad it all worked out and you didn’t have to walk for miles searching.

Yeah! He knew where he wanted to be and that was with us. There were only one or two times when he started scrambling around with the zoomies. The girls weren't that big when we got him and the leash got dropped a couple times :)

I love your story, reminded me of the wired hair fox terrier our family had when I was growing up! Thanks for the morning laugh.

Our black lab, Maisy, discovered 30” of snow enabled her to step over the fence. I ran back in the house to grab shoes and found her sitting on the front porch as if to say “That was fun, but I’d like to come back inside now.”
