Yes to all you've sad. My own experience with immigration comes as the granddaughter, daughter, wife and mother of immigrants--I'm the only American-born of the group. And oddly (sadly) I've witnessed immigrants denigrating other immigrants within a strange caste-system of their own making; e.g. who is the more "worthy" immigrant, who works harder vs who is lazy, and who isn't assimilating enough or the "right way" vs who is keeping the flame of their original culture alive. It's ridiculous the pretzels people twist themselves into to glorify themselves and "other" the rest of the people. Human nature? Inevitable? Evidence that the American experiment is destined to fail? I don't want to believe that or to give up yet.

The silver lining is that I don't think it's human nature. It's indoctrinated behavior that's unfortunately unique to the USA. Thanks for the comment, my best wishes to your family!

Accurate assessment, I’ve found even tentative tries to sort thru news gets immediately into pushback. As a retired teacher I had rarely seen such lack of curiosity. Even the show of pride when they brag about not looking stuff up. It’s bizarre!
