Agree with all of your wisdom and perspective on writing. It is powerful and for those of us who have been at it for a lifetime, we appreciate you found a couple of tricks recently you are willing to share.

Thanks, Walter. It was great to listen to you! A while ago I discovered a book from the 70s called "Teaching is a Subversive Activity" by Neil Postman and Charles Weingartner. The authors talk about the need to make teaching relevant to students and move away from the reliance of standardized tests and rote memorization. They talk about democratizing the classroom. A RADICAL idea of the time, one most schools still have not completely aligned with. As I was listening to you talk about the importance and power of human ideas and writing, I thought how WRITING is also a subversive activity, one that is needed now most especially, to continually challenge the narrative and disrupt the system that depends on an illiterate, distracted public to maintain its power. Writing IS activism and your writing and sounding the alarm to these issues is essential in the way that it informs, educates and empowers.

Thank you! I'll have to find that book. I think your classroom sounds like it's in line with that objective too!
