Very interesting. I do read guidelines now, but I didn’t when I was young. Substack is great if you write non fiction. People here do not pay for fiction. So what is the best way to create your own fans for fiction? Patreon? I have set it up, but it is so much work. Is Medium a good place to find fans for a trilogy of stories which are set in Japan, Korea, China and Tibet in the 1850? I would like to find people to read them. I may serialism them here , but I am starting to feel that I won’t find readers for them here. And I am not sure if I want to go through one more learning curve. In the last two years I may have climbed a hundred of those mountains . It is very time consuming. I am attempting to master Amazon ads . Very challenging .

I've found that you can do well with narrative style articles on Medium. However, straight fiction is a hard sell. I've had better luck with that here on Substack (I do a humorous story on Thursday). I don't have any expertise on Amazon ads, but I'm skeptical (though some people swear by them). Let us know what you find out!

I think the role of publications has changed dramatically since the Boost program started. I have a publication with just under 2K followers, small by any standards. But the top posts in that pub have had 15K and 20K views. Because they were boosted. In the past, big publications offered more exposure. Now exposure comes from a post getting boosted. But what publications DO offer is the ability to reach specific readers. People who want to read a specific topic. Which, in the long run, makes it more important to read submission guidelines. And also more important for publication owners to be more strict about those guidelines. :)

Yes, I like how Medium keeps evolving. I feel publications are especially important for new writers who haven't developed a following. Publications are also the best way to get nominated for a boost, so it all ties together. There are a variety of nice communities within Medium.

I will check it out, although I am not confident that I can take the strain of learning the ropes in yet another platform. I have a patroon. Maybe I’ll continue with that for building a community and little Pages League podcast may help too in the fortune. Just trying to focus on ehT I enjoy the most and at the moment I am working g on a novel trilogy. The reader magnet will be ready soon. May put it into Substack into chapters . We will see .

I think that's a good philosophy. I like to dabble on a few platforms but these days it's mainly Medium and Substack. I also have a Ko-Fi but I haven't even put my links there for a while!
