Hi Walter,

I hope you are doing great and that your writing is going well!

I've had a bit of a slower month in May than April, but still going decent.

I want to second your motion on buying a refurbished phone. I haven't bought a new phone in 15 years. My current phone is an unlocked iPhone 7 that I bought 4 years ago for $250. It's now an 8 year old phone that still works just fine - no issues.

The other major money saver for our family is that we never buy a new car. The last new car I bought was back in 2004 - over 20 years ago. We generally pay around about $10000 cash for a model and brand that has a very reliable history and is fuel efficient, and that we can get about 5 years out of. This is easy to research on the internet. During this time, we have had 3 great cars and 1 that was a bit of a lemon. Even with the lemon, it was still worth it - we calculated that over the years, we have saved obscene amounts of money relative to the cost of buying a new car, paying for all the "warranty" service, depreciation, etc.

We can afford to buy new phones and cars, but it just doesn't make fiscal sense.

My .02.
