"The true measure of a man is how he treats someone who can do him absolutely nothing good." ~ The Abolitionist Samuel Johnson

I share this partly in case anyone still has questions about the ultimate reason why McFelon's human net worth is less than garbage. More importantly, I share it to remind everyone being trampled on by the 1% that no matter how obscenely rich they continue to get they will never own an ounce of character. Someday, a kinder world will look back on this and understand who the true victims and aggressors were.

The men who idolize mass murderers, dictators, and con men - the worst stains on human history - are the men determined to be just like them.

How can this be circulated to the MAGA who blindly swallow and regurgitate the Faux newslines of how the immigrants are the ones depriving them? The MAGA group needs this education......

Shares go a long way. Person to person conversations help. As we change how we think about our culture, our culture will improve. It starts with conversations. Thanks for the comment!

Good morning to you and yours Walter!

Your missive today prompted me to Google 'societal collapse' and down the rabbit hole I traveled, thank you.

32 civilizations have come and gone on our small blue planet, and the causes outlined are both instructive and difficult to ignore.

It would seem that we humans are leaning in that repetitive self destructive direction once again, except perhaps this time on a larger scale.

We may be adept at creating technology and widgets, but we are maliciously unevolved animals, with a populace trained to ignore history and turn to violence. Animals. So here we are. Same shit. Different century.

PS. I am so happy to have you, Walter, and other thoughtful and kind SubStack writers to help talk me down.

Thanks for your kind words D. We are facing challenging times, but there are parameters to how thing will play out. People will still have to grow food. There will still have to be some kind of social order. We'll see what happens. Store up on your canned goods!

IF one didn't know better some would say these words are nothing but the cynicism of a bitter man who joined the wrong side of the fight.

IF one didn't know better some would say these words are from a collection of poems founded in folly and wild imaginings.

IF one didn't know better some would say these are the words of a sore loser.

MAGA supporters would be those people who perhaps don't know any better.

To me, one who proclaims to know better, these are the words of a man who has chosen COMPASSION over an excess dollar, FAMILY over individual notoriety and SOVEREIGN DIGNITY over selling his soul in order to trample out the dreams and opportunities of others. The man who owns these things is the richest man in America, not Elon Musk.

The world has it backwards.

When are we going to get this right?

A man who speaks and walks as if touched by the very hand of God may, at times, have his share of difficulties, but he never lives with regret, and every breath he takes is taken through the space of a clear conscience.

That's ultimate RESPONSIBILITY. That's ultimate PRIVILEGE.

That's ultimate FREEDOM.

These are the tenets upon which America was founded and for which we fought then and the very same things for which we fight to preserve today.

Be well!

The reality that "Freedom" is an illusion in this country hit me. At the same time, I was younger and growing up in the inner city and then actually traveling outside the US, and that solidified my belief that freedom is an illusion! Growing up in the inner town, aka "the ghetto," I quickly noticed that NO ONE came to help us and or fix the situation that still exits today. Instead, we were left to fester and then forgotten about. I was lucky in that I was smart enough to figure out that I was the one who was going to move up and get out. These leaders never helped me I had to help myself.

Then while a teenager I was able to go to Europe to visit family and I noticed even more how we like to to say that we are the "freeest" country in the world and yet in Spain where my Father is from they have Universal Health Care when I went over there in the late 70's early 80's, everyone lived well, owned homes and worked with their "Ciesta's" in the middle where they could do whatever they wanted. They lived free, the food was fresh, people were always getting together in the late afternoons to the cafe's. I remember telling myself at 14, "Man, these people know how to live it up! No wonder none of them ever came to the US for a better life because their lives are better here!"

Going back home to the US was always depressing. Back to the bullshit, back to work, no more relaxing and dealing with stressful situations. I was ready for my parents to tell us we were moving to Spain. Yes! I know Spain has its problems, but trust me, it's not as bad as what's going on here now. My Wife gave me an idea, she told me that we need to get our passports in order just in case the US goes down the shitter we could quickly jump on a plane to Spain!

I'm thinking hard about this decision.

Yes! Do it! My wife and kids are all Peruvian citizens. I've been thinking seriously about leaving, but I know it's critical to stay in this fight too. The US has too much power and we have to make sure it is a force for good... even if it's for the first time.

Wow, Walter! This is so true. We have all been fed the line that we have so much, when in fact, everything has been withheld from all but a tiny group. This is magnificent - sending it to everyone I can think of!

Citizens of all countries and empires have felt like this about them at one time, but America's neglect of its citizenry increasingly justifies their feelings.
