Thanks Kristina! Yes, I am a nommer for Cultured. The other thing that seemed to make a big difference was when Medium updated its "top writer" feature. They started showing the profiles of the top writers in each category, and I turned up on quite a few of them. I always tried to use relevant tags on all my stories, and I was a top writer in about half the categories. The new format seemed to drive a lot of traffic to my profile. Jason Provencio had the same experience. My new monthly followers have dropped from a high of around 7k a few months back, to just around 1-2k recently. I appreciate your wonderful advice both here on Substack and on Medium!
Hey Walter, do you mean the new topic directory with 500 topics? I used to be a Top 10 writer in mutltiple categories. Then they changed the page and people told me they wouldn't see me in any list or in their feeds anymore. I guess that's because I also write a lot of meta stories. ^^ For me that's okay and part of the "game" but I'd like to learn more about your experience. I heard from several other nommers that they are growing SUPER fast and are recommended on Medium or the newsletter. Really appreciate your long answer, Walter. Yes, it used to only be 70 topics I think. I haven't talked to anyone to get the specifics on how that directory has transformed. The meta stories shouldn't really hurt you on Medium, but they are exempt from further distribution. Still, you have plenty of content that would work great for medium. Your general writer and networking advice is a great fit for a variety of publications. I just signed up to your publication directory. And, yes, I'm the proud father of two daughters!
