I related to this. My dad tried to teach me to disc a field once. This was without ever having driven anything, including a tractor, or knowing how to use a clutch. It was horrible. He couldn't understand why I didn't grasp his instructions. I used a lot of avoidance with him, too.

Yeah, a lot of farm kids end up maimed or dead because of things like this. "Go disc the field son, you're a man now." Next thing you know the tractor is burning and the kid can't get out. Naturally the media never covers any of these stories of abuse that go on in red areas because everyone thinks rural towns are like Mayberry. I'm glad you made it through Brandon!

I held my breath. And was relieved that it was minor physical injury. But no contact for 30 years. I get it. I don’t imagine there were a lot of happy times with your father.

What the hell is wrong with so many men. I’m so sorry you had such a prick for a father but like you I had a prick for a dad also the only difference was my mother took me and my sister and left. She had a 7th grade education and we chose to leave and struggle Bless my mother. I don’t trust men very much. Unfortunately I view men as predators.
