Loser Republicans Are Always Worse Off Than They Were 4 Years Ago
Maybe they should try trusting the experts, getting a degree, and treating other people with respect?
Whenever anybody asks, “Are you better off today than you were 4 years ago?” I reply with, “YES, YES, A THOUSAND TIMES YES!”
Four years ago we were in the grip of a terrible pandemic. People were losing friends and family at an astonishing rate. If you tried to protect yourself from the virus by wearing a mask you risked being harassed and insulted by Trump's violent hate mob.
Meanwhile, the president himself seemed to think the pandemic was a joke. He dismantled the pandemic response team for some reason. He made absurd comments and incited hatred against the medical experts who tried to give us the information we needed to survive.
Jobs were evaporating. The price of gas was going through the roof. There was no food on the shelves. Trump's inflation had already started. Massive corporations were already making record profits. Trump's tax cuts for the rich had already overheated the budget, and we were all looking at the collapse of civilization as we knew it.
So yeah, absolutely everything sucked 4 years ago.
Then the majority of the United States woke up from its fever dream and elected a kind and capable man as president. The period between the 2020 election and the inauguration of President Biden was probably the worst part of the whole Trump administration.
I've seen entitled rich assholes throw temper tantrums before, but Trump's took the cake. What had already been a legacy marred by an over-fixation on petty grievances got turned up to eleven. Trump called to suspend the Constitution. He wanted to throw the opinions of everyone who thought he was a vile and incompetent little toad into a dumpster fire. A mob attacked the Capitol.
Yeah... the world SUCKED four years ago.
Since then it's gotten steadily better. The jobs are back. Inflation is down. The stock market is stable. The pandemic is under control thanks largely to vaccines and the opinions of experts.
Everything is better now. Everything is much better now. It's better for everybody, but for some reason that message isn't in the media.
The comical thing about all this is that Republicans have always used the line, “Are you better off now than four years ago?” They say it with a smirk like it's some kind of “gotcha” moment. They also use phrases like “How's that working out for ya?” and “Miss me yet?”
Why do you think it is that Republicans can always rely on this argument no matter how well the economy is doing?
I'll tell you the answer. It's because no matter how many opportunities there are out there, Republicans are ALWAYS going to struggle.
That's what happens when you act like the experts are always wrong.
That's what happens when you make a mockery of getting a degree.
That's what happens when you disregard all the lessons of history.
That's what happens when you make vulgar statements like “fuck your feelings” into your personal motto.
Republicans are going to fail because they ALWAYS fail. They have nothing to offer. They become fixated on hate, hostility, and airing their grievances because they're too cowardly to take a look in the mirror and accept any form of accountability.
Trump is the biggest example of that. Here's a guy who wants a participation award for the 2020 election. He persists in the delusional claim that he won even though that's clearly not the case.
He did the same thing with the debate against Kamala Harris. She pulled his pants down on national television and broke his brain. Of course she did! This is a guy who has never cracked open a book. He has never prepared for anything. He's never worked. Everything he has was stolen and handed to him.
Republicans love him because he represents the loser ideology they've all embraced. It's a toxic ideology.
Yes, it's a lot easier to wake up in the morning and blame everyone else for the problems in your life. Republicans blame a lot of people. They blame women, they blame the LGBTQ+ community, they blame the Black community, they blame immigrants, they blame experts, they blame school teachers, the list goes on and on and on.
Republicans blame everybody in the world but THEMSELVES!
They chortle and say things like “Are you better off than you were 4 years ago?” because they can't imagine that anyone actually is.
But the reality is that if you've worked hard over these last four years, if you've treated others with respect, if you've listened to experts, if you've behaved like a decent and responsible human being, then YES, things have gotten better.
There’s still a long way to go, but things have gotten a lot better.
Things have gotten better for anyone and everyone who has not sold their soul to an ideology of hatred and grievance. That’s how life WORKS!
The very worst thing you can do for the grievance fixated is allow them to seize the reins of power. They never think about progress. In fact, progress offends them. If the idea of progress even enters their mind, it's something they plan to attend to after they've finished their retribution tour.
But that's an illusion because they'll never run out of people that they hold grievances against.
This is the fundamental sinkhole of Republican ideology. They claim that everything will be great once we've gotten rid of all the people they disapprove of. They want to get rid of those that are disloyal. They want to get rid of immigrants. They want to control women.
Thankfully, they rarely make much progress in any of these objectives because their acts of evil tend to stir up the courageous heart that lies dormant in the souls of most human beings.
The mass of men and women would prefer to live their quiet lives. We want to do work that we think is useful. We want to raise our children. We want to live in a comfortable house. We want to sit down and watch a movie with our families. We don't have any ambitions to take over the world.
But when a mob of evil people fueled by an ideology of grievance come knocking at the door, we're not about to roll over and let them burn our lives to ash. Nope. We stand up and demonstrate the strength we'd prefer to lend to acts that would benefit all humankind.
But the grievance mob can't even see those benefits because they're so fixated on hate. So they fuck around, and they find out.
If you're one of the people who is obsessed by the idea that your life has gotten “worse” over the last few years, maybe it's time to try on a new way of thinking. Tell me this, has hate ever made anything better? Have you ever responded to an imagined affront and felt a sense of peace and achievement in your soul? Or is it the case that the rotting hole inside you has only gotten bigger? Is it the case that your acts of violence have only escalated until you've found yourself standing alone and miserable at the center of a burned out world?
Following a grievance philosophy only makes you miserable. You'll be miserable even when everyone around you has found success and happiness. You'll be convinced that the world is not better now, but it's not because of the flaws in the world, it's because of the flaws you carry in your own uneducated and undisciplined mind.
Yes, things are a lot better now than they were four years ago. If we elect Harris, things will get better still.
Put down your sword and pick up a plowshare. If you want to look for people to blame for every problem in your life, start with yourself.

Preach Mr. Rhein! I look at my Trump supporting family members and friends who claim they’re so much worse off than they were four years ago. It’s such a shocking statement to make, and not in the way they think. It’s shocking in that they must have actively had to work hard against all the drastic improvements and opportunities we’ve been surrounded with over the last four years to be worse off. But, it’s not shocking, in that I’ve watched many of them play the victim in so many situations over the years, which is the very essence of the Republican ideology.
The only way I’m worse off than I was 3.5-4 years ago is in the stress this new election cycle has brought.
