This is such a timely and pertinent subject. On the eve of Trumps unnerving inaugural, this common sense approach to people who have been persecuted , is especially apt.
Demonizing any group , in this country , is especially disconcerting as we were begun as a nation of emigrants.
We were begun in a fashion of welcome and idealism that it appears we have left behind . We now leave that welcome and turn to bigotry and separation, spurning love and inclusion.
This is a tragedy. For all of us . And all those who we might have welcomed.
My cousin David was gay. He had an amazing partner. My Uncle M.. was not welcoming once his only child told him that he was gay. My cousin was an amazing gifted artist. He was also a very sweet and very soft spoken soul. My uncle was not. My cousin was tall dark hair 1/2 Hawaiian and 1/2 white. His Mother was tall and fun and very kind ..my uncle was short with a serious small man complex attitude.. he had numerous affairs and my Uncle would berate his son and eventually put him into a conversion therapy hospital.. all of this destroyed my Auntie then my lovely cousin contacted AIDS ( this was in the early 80’s) and finally passed a few years later. They never divorced and now she’s in a nursing home and at least that AHole visits her every day.. but personally I’ll never forgive him
How is it, Walter, that such a dearth exists of fellow humans who think so kindly, justly, and consistently as you do, most days, out loud. You remind me to becalm myself when I feel the urge to lash out at the horrors around us. Then, I move on to Jeff Tiedrich, much like you philosophically, but righteously profane. This duality of great communicators makes me ponder the meanings of justice. Thank you.
I read both of these authors daily as well. I love looking at life through a kaleidoscope with humor, practicality, and groundedness as its foundation. Walter and Jeff offer different perspectives on life that feed my soul on different levels, so, like you, it makes for a balanced meal on which to dine. I am happy to come across another who feels the same.
This book seems to be very timely. The fact that our country is on the verge of mass deportations, and the desire to rollback protections to marginalized groups by the upcoming administration makes this book very relevant.
The problem, as the author so aptly points out, is lack of understanding and empathy. Our country as a whole has shown there this an epidemic of selfishness and greed. I can't tell you how many times I've heard people who voted for Trump say, "I voted for the person who's going to most benefit me and my family." What about the rest of society? How about voting for the person who will benefit society as a whole?
I've also heard Republicans say, "Oh, he's not really going to deport millions of people." Just this past Sunday, Trump when on a national TV show and said that's exactly what he plans to do. That was one of the main points in his campaign speeches.. Of course he plans on doing it. Why do people refuse to believe the truth?
Every day that passes, I am still dumbfounded that a majority of people voted to put a narcissist and a felon in the White House. More and more people who voted for this grifter are finding out just how much he doesn't care about them or their family. He is dead set on taking money from the poor, working class and giving it to the the millions and billionaires as tax breaks. It's really a travesty.

Here is also a tragedy unfolding. Both parties, responsible.
Contaminants, SV40 (monkey), mutagenesis, replicating contaminating DNA into cells, into the nucleus of cells...becoming cancer.
Willful intent with omissions in sequences. Our regulators have been caught in multiple lies & attempts to cover this up.
Many cases & deaths already. Shedding also to include those not injected. Some have been referring to this as "Turbo cancers," causing rapid cancer & death. This is not supposition, but fact. Studies supporting. Please watch video: https://rumble.com/v5w0nfz-pfizer-dna-detected-in-colon-cancer-biopsy-kevin-mckernan-presents-findings.html

That's a hard story but thank you for sharing. Stories like that have gone untold for too long.

Which "marginalized groups" and which "protections" are going to be rolled back? What protections did we lose during Trump’s first term?
I'm an Immigrant and I look forward to the deportation of illegal aliens who invaded the US. They've broken our laws.
When you vote, are you voting for policies that don't benefit your family?
It's no accident that the agency dealing with immigrants has the acronym ICE (like their hearts).
Illegal aliens aren't Immigrants. Maybe you should educate yourself on the topic before making ridiculous comments.
Agree , load of virtue signalling woke drivel - compassion in drag with obligatory fag segues
Thank you for adding two new books to my reading list!
