There’s a notorious story in my family about the time my son made a batch of chip cookies. I came home from work, saw several dozen fresh, warm cookies on the counter and took a bite of one. I immediately spit it out. My son had put in the wrong amount of baking soda — I think 1/4 cup instead of 1/4 teaspoon. The cookies looked perfect but were inedible!
Haha, my kids did that too. They were experimenting and thought, "Well, it was so good the last time, I'll put twice as much in this time!" Nope... doesn't work that way!
That was so delightful and beautifully written! Many years ago my 8 year old daughter wanted to make pulled taffy. It wasn’t quite as rowdy as your cookie baking day but it was messy and timing was everything! The taffy turned out to be delicious but we agreed that was our first and last home made taffy. We decided that popcorn balls were easier and just as delicious!
I laughed while reading this delightful post. As a mom, grandmother, and now great-grandmother, I have been there enough times to identify with you. I think you were amazingly brave, quick on your feet to catch those kids mid-air, and industrious to continue through the chaos. All that and now you have many cookies to grace your future. Thanks for a wonderful reading experience.
Love this! And it's a great idea to resurrect some of the oldies that were missed over on Medium.
Thank you!
Scratch is the ONLY way to do it!
I think so too. They taste way better!

Were you able to pick out the choc chips, at least? That’s what we did when we made that mistake

Thank you! I'm glad you liked it!
Such fun to be a parent 😂 great stories to share Walter. I’m sure your daughters will remember that day for the rest of their lives 😌👍🏻
I certainly will!
I enjoyed your story very much. Your descriptions were fresh and fun; it made the scene of the kitchen a lot easier to imagine.
Thank you!
No mixes!
Scratch forever!
I taught my kids the same from a very young age — basically as soon as they could read. Great life skill!
Yeah, and it makes for great memories!
I could SO relate to everyone in this delightful piece!
Thank you
Thanks for reading!
Thank you. This reminded me of making cookies with my son years ago, although it was not quite as hectic as your experience.
A couple little kids can take over a room!
So adorable!!😀🤯
Thank you!
Aspiring young bakers! Love this!
Thank you! It was one of those memorable days :)
