Notes on Michael Fassbinder & Babylon 5

1) He actually acted opposite Katherine Waterson (daughter of Sam Waterson) twice, once in "Jobs" and once in the movie "Alien: Covenant" in which Fassbinder is both a good and evil android. Waterson's role is much larger in Alien:Covenant.

2) He has played Rochester in a film of "Jane Eyre", Carl Jung in "A Dangerous Method", the young Professor Magneto and the lead "Macbeth" (on film).

3) MOST amazing is Fassbender's performance in "Twelve Years a Slave". He plays the much crueler and openly sadistic of two slaveowners, Edwin Epp. The (comparatively/relatively) more benign one (William Ford) is played by Benedict Cumberbatch. Now when the latter appeared, I immediately identified Cumberbatch, and said, "Oh that is Benedict Cumberbatch playing a slave owner. (The slave, Solomon Northrup, evidently speaks somewhat kindly of Ford in his autobiography.)

But.....Michael Fassbender had been on screen for more or less five minutes before it suddenly dawned on me, "Holy poop. That's Michael Fassbender!!!

"Babylon 5" was not only groundbreaking in planning out its story arc five years in advance before filming even its first season. It made sure that paperback tie-ins and comic books were in strict continuity with the TV series. This is very unusual. The paperback novels connected with Star Trek and Buffy the Vampire Slayer are wildly OUT of continuity with the television series. But the paperbacks tied in with Babylon 5 were carefully monitored to not violate the continuity of the TV show. Star Wars has also gone this last route.

It was entertaining, and I learned about a couple of movies (and games) I'd never heard of. Thanks for the mention!
