I'm sorry to hear that Tom. There is a lot of uncertainty in the near future, but there will always be the need for capable people. If you have some article concepts, let me know and maybe I can help you generate some writing income. Thanks for your support!
Check out my Substack. I have a general / political section, and one devoted to the Underground Railroad (I have a lot of material to draw on for this). Feeling a bit overwhelmed now, getting up in age. I know I shouldn't use that as an excuse but it's a reality (maybe as much mental as physical though): https://calarco.substack.com/p/the-truth-is-really-out-there?r=1fjbo
I was just looking at the posts and some I noticed are only for paid subscribers of which I have none. I did send out free links though, but I guess they were marked as paid if I didn't, which I didn't even realize. Tell me if the link above is only for paid -- just noticed that all posts are paywalled after a month, didn't know that. Thanks.
Yes, that one is paid. You can go into the settings and undo that paywall on the archive if you want to. I had mine set up that way for a while and I changed it. I've been told it's better to have everything for free, that's the way I do it.
2x per month is smart. We also have to figure out what works best for both of us. I would be a bit careful with showing the faces of my daughters... If you know what I mean. They are super cute and there are crazy people out there... Just as an idea. Talk soon, my friend!
I know what you mean, but that's an old photo and they don't look like that anymore. I also want to have pictures of them out there in case my house burns down and I lose everything (or I have to flee unexpectedly), but I do understand and appreciate your concern. I am planning on doing 2 video chats per month for my paid subscribers, and 1 for anyone with the link. It's fun to be busy!
Today I learned the word “unbusy”. Love this one too.
I know your kids are older now, just a hint.
Cool with the video chats. You can send me the deeds and I can promote it then. If there's an update you'd like to add, we can add this to the post.
One more Q would you share the link to the flywheel Bootcamp with Derek? He'll also share our Bootcamp in March. Maybe I can write a post and you crosspost it? Or/and you share the link with some details?
I'm sorry, what's the link you want me to share (the flywheel Bootcamp)? Is that a link on your newsletter? I'm happy to share :) Maybe just post it in a reply!
The notice I got when I tried to lower my monthly (or yearly) subscription fee was that $5 per mo. was the minimum I could charge. It's difficult to budget $60 a year to many fine writers, which is really what I'd like to do, so I limit myself to 5 and am thinking of rotating those. I have trouble asking anyone to pay for a subscription to one of my newsletters since we're inundated daily by so much to read, but it occurred to me that on Substack it might be possible to have a "buy me a coffee" feature so if someone is particularly taken with a single story, they can contribute without having to sign on for a whole year.
Some extra income to pay for it ... : ) Already oversubscribed and my long-time part-time job looks like it's going to end.

I do it in the form of discount codes.
