I think the lost cause theory has been circulating for decades. I was taught it and read it and never believed it! Enslaving others is obviously opportunistic and hateful. The bible was written by male opportunists who wanted justification for their odious acts. You don't need the bible to tell you how to act! This is 2025 and the majority of humans don't believe this cold diet any more! We know who the enemy is right out in front. They won't prevail!
Walter, there is so much that I could say on this, but you have said it better. This statement "All we have to do is train ourselves to seek flaws in the places we’ve been indoctrinated to revere as perfect." is what has kept the South and many other parts of the nation impacted by migration of white Southerners after the Civil War from recognizing the truth of their participation in atrocities. The collective South has never taken responsibility for their actions regarding slavery, the cause for the Civil War and the atrocity of systemic racism that developed in our country. Yes, Northern interests (shipping and banking, particularly) were complicit in the development and implementation of the institution, but it is on the South for its perpetuation. Too many Southerners just can't accept that their ancestors were traitors to America when they fought in the Confederacy. Our local paper (yeah, we still have a weekly) just ran a quarter page ad on January 14 "Happy Birthday, General Robert E. Lee (January 19, 1807) 'Duty is the most sublime word in the English language.' You were a man of honor and courage who skillfully defended his native state and our fledgling nation. We still respect you, sir. (paid advertisement)." This was, of course, in advance of MLK day. You can't make this up in South Carolina.
I probably missed it but, did you ask any of those polled if they would like to be a slave one day? Supposedly, they've never been a slave, so it's difficult to care-- if you have never been there... BUT--soon, many Americans will be living the "dream of the plantations of ole'", except they won't be sipping mint Juleps on the porch and watching the field hands (enslaved) picking string beans and watermelons - they will be the laborers in the massive factory farms of the oligarchy. They'll get sick in the stomach seeing the vulgarity and rancid decomposing souls of politicians, eager to erect monuments of Elon and Donald ... YES, soon they'll understand what it is all about. Trump will have his face on the side of Mt. Rushmore to allow the nation to vomit monuments out of their mouth and nostrils! Here's a story for you, a remix-- Grumbling for more images of their heroes, they will become stuffed( like God heard the grumbling of the Israelites and gave them quail to eat.) Exodus 16:11--- It says, they ate and ate for days and months until they "loathe it".
That is one thing I want to start doing more indeed: ask people what harm would it do (and most importantly to whom) to stop going for profit and innovation at all cost and instead focus on making sure we all have it as good as a minimum goodness of life we decide of altogether. I think this type of question puts the onus on the willfully ignorants and not so willful ignorant and that's a game changer in my honest opinion. We have spent to much time justifying the good in "woke" practices when we should focus on the obvious and blatantbad in current practices.
I went to elementary school and high school in Tennessee as well. I remember imagining slaves as sitting around on the plantations singing and joyfully being safe and secure in the arms of their benefactors, the plantation owners. I couldn't quite get it to jibe with the later stories of lynchings. Never really quite made any sense to me. I'm strongly opposed to these monuments. It's sad that the cultural history of the South was hijacked with this propaganda.
Exactly right!
Well said…I agree totally

They should be fought tooth and nail by all supporters of equity and general tolerance and acceptance of our fellow man.
We cannot go back .
Trump , Putins patsy, and Elon Musk are attempting to destroy us for power and money .
Just like the wealthy Southerners who forced the Civil War on us.
Their chaos making , misinformation is their hallmark . Their agenda is evil.
We have , unfortunately, entered a new term of hate.
Trump is a white supremacist as are his ugly supporters.
They are demonstrating their malicious , power grabbing , might.
They are marauders looking for ways to destroy our democratic freedoms, as guaranteed by the Constitution of the USA.
They are destroying attempts at racial equity, that has made some progress over the years since the Civil War.
These too are wealthy White , allegedly “ Christian “ men.
Which in itself is a lie.
They’re not promoters of Christs teaching in any manner of speaking.
