"You cannot transform a lie into the truth no matter how many people vote for it." I couldn't agree more, Walter. The Criminal-Elect has always been a liar and always will be. Truth still matters to some of us, though, no matter how many votes he got.
Thank you for writing this. It’s absolutely absurd that the people in our government hold so much power and are rarely held accountable for wrongdoings.
In addition to telling our kids they don’t need to follow the rules/ laws, society is also sending a message of greed and entitlement. Men in power are entitled to all the money in the world as well to any woman’s body they desire.
It is in fact the scariest time and I don’t know where we go from here.
I ventured into a comments section yesterday (donning a hazmat suit for protection) of a politically charged discussion to check the temperature of the arguers. WooBoy! I assume the pot stirrers were bots made for this purpose, but the overwhelming message was that dump saved women from a national abortion ban! While I've heard it before, it shocked my senses in such a way that it disoriented me. We are in for such chaos that I don't know how to brace for it. When some, open to discovering they are the mark of the con, have their lightbulb moment, I imagine they will be enraged. My mind sees of lot of 'Teslas blowing up at dump tower' type incidents and taking others out with them. Ugh.
I am starting a sourdough hobby this week to have a focus in 2025 besides donning my cape and saving Democracy when I am called upon. I will be making bread, dinner rolls, cinnamon rolls, crackers, cookies, and any other interesting things I find. You are all invited to partake after each incident of lies we are called upon to correct the record in service to the greater good.
My stance for 2025: When two people argue online, I believe whoever spells correctly.
I really feel for parents of young ones right now. I really don’t know how you explain living life by the rules is a good thing when so many are thumbing their noses at a lawful life. I feel for you, Walter.
And what are we saying to girls and women when a rapist rules our country?! What a knife through the heart.
When my daughter was 8 we went to an Obama rally. He then won the presidency and moved into our White House with 2 little girls roughly the same age. She is nearly 25 now and still thinks of him as her president. What a stellar example he was for my young kids. (Well, he did wear that tan suit that one day, lol!). I loved that he really genuinely felt the crushing tragedy of Sandy Hook and demonstrated a deeply human response, even if everything and everyone worked against him to do much about it.
Now, I mostly worry about the level of such overt misogyny in young men. Poor men. They are ridiculously floundering in our society and grasping at straws to define what real masculinity is. I’d like to think this current example of Rapist/Assaulter in Chief is fleeting. But it just doesn’t feel like it right now. Misogyny has been around for the ages. But Women are getting stronger, speaking out, and the young men don’t like it. I am wondering how this most current version of a power struggle will pan out.
All this to say, I think things sometimes have to be so obviously destructive and bad before people make the change they want to see in the world. …unfortunately.
It's hard for me to wrap my mind around growing up in the dumbest era of America when we have access to more knowledge than at any time in history. All I have to compare it to is the time I grew up in, which was at the tail end of prosperity just before Reagan was elected the best match of lighting the fire and burning it all to the ground.
I can't fathom what stories are going to come out of schools this year. Remember the Clinton blowjob years and what that wrought? It is going to appear quaint by comparison. My stomach churns and my blood boils for how we collectively let our girls down.
Wendy, I feel it too, to my very core. I guess all we are in control of is ourselves — living by example, a life of integrity, kindness, love, empathy, generosity. It does mean something, even if that life is much quieter in this savage time. I think we do need to still be a voice for others, continue creating.
Thank you! I have asked myself this question over and over. We don’t raise our children to be like Trump. We don’t want them to think that if you’re wealthy and powerful (and shameless) enough you can escape the consequences of bad or criminal behavior. Churches that are already losing members will lose more. Those churches that have embraced Trump will see that their witness is tarnished by their proximity to him. It is indeed a sad era.
We no longer consider integrity to be a worthy standard to live by. An act does not have to be criminal to lack integrity. A perfect example is Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, contributing to Trump’s “inauguration fund” because of the fear of retribution or retaliation by Trump removing him from consideration for government contracts. I mean, Apple already has more money than God and it’s the 7th largest company in the world. What skin would it be off Cook’s nose to conscientiously object to donating? Like, what real damage would come to the company if they didn’t get one of Trump’s contracts? I felt the same way about all the Trump staffers from his first administration who suddenly wrote books about what a disaster Trump was, but rather than blow the whistle or resign in protest, they opted to monetize the chaos. Pathetic.
the rule of law loses its teeth when the law itself is corupted by the one tasked to dispense it - one may come to think that Scotus giving the president immunity for any of his actions while in office would fall in such category.

Love this. Thank you, Wendy (as a part time proofreader, I love your last line! Lol!).

Common sense and common decency with a dose of look out for the other guy- ism is sorely lacking in the common discourse.
However, common sense and common decency are alive and well in the nation.
Some of us did not vote for The Orange Gangster.
We try every day to treat others as we would want to be treated and play fair.
We will continue to do the right thing,no matter who is doing the opposite.
Our children and grandchildren watch what we do. We are far more influential than gutless politicians.

He's all about winning or losing no matter the boundaries violated...my college kids are demoralized
Well said.
Excellent article! 👏👏👏👏🤝🤝
