Walter, your success is remarkable. Congratulations. I haven't found the winning formula for myself yet, but at least I get occasional boosts. I love the idea of gathering our gems and forming them into outlines.
I've just scheduled a post where I give a full summary of the last four years. Maybe that will help bring all the variables into the light a little better.
I do the same thing when I'm too tired to write a full blown article: I just go through the notes I have (I keep mine in Notion) and try and write an outline or write a few more thoughts or just in general try to build on them a bit more. At least I've done something.
Hello Walter, I really appreciate you shared all these information, it's highly valuable for me, since I'm new on Medium (and on Substack too), but I try to get familiar with both. I also applied for the Medium Day talk and curious if they would pick me as a newbie. Well, let's see...
Hi Walter, thanks for sharing these insights! I’m amazed that your article with 1,8K views has such high earnings, congratulations! Is that something you see very often? I have a lot of articles with over 1,8K views and a similar read ratio as yours, but the earnings are around $200. Do you have any idea why there’s such a huge difference in earnings?
That's a great comment Lea, and I've seen the same thing with my articles. The short answer is that we don't have complete access to how the compensation is calculated. I think that's a result of practical limitations. There's a line as to how much data Medium can realistically give us access to. I also speculate that they regularly update their system. They have to in order to remain sustainable as a business. My guess on this article is that it got some sort of a multiplier because it has a very high member read ratio (over 80%). It was also Boosted, but those are just my guesses. I've had other articles with Boosts with a high read ratio that didn't earn that well.
I’m not working on a schedule and I’m not even asking for payment, but even I find the notebook of ideas and kernels of future postings idea a great help looking forward at what to write about next while capturing the random stray thoughts that eventually come together.
Walter, Thanks so much for sending people my way on substack. It is greatly appreciated. I post daily on Substack, mostly on spiritual capitalism, practical philosophy, applied game theory, solutions to specific problems, and wealth-building hacks - Lewis

Thanks for the encouragement :-)

Every one of those thoughts is a building block.
