Sounds like you are doing extraordinarily well on both platforms compared to most Walter, so well done. From what I gather Medium earnings for many (most?) writers crashed by 80 or 90% in January and have not recovered, which may be why I see so many Medium refugees here on Substack! I guess the lesson is to diversify and have a backup plan. 😀
It has always been the case that you have to adapt to what Medium wants each month. I used to need to do a soft reset every month, and sometimes it would take me a week or so to figure out what they were looking for. Now my focus is more on Substack, but it's interesting to see how the same article performs on the two platforms. I just had one do really well on Medium and it was only mediocre over here.
Unfortuntately, there's something new to talk about every day. I'm ready to pivot when a bit of normalcy returns. I am going to make an effort to feature more humor/satire.
I like to read about things that make me think. A lot of the time, when I read for information, I wonder why the author skips the fundamental question.
Oh, do I think you miss the fundamental question? Heavens, no. That's why I read, restack, and share you to BlueSky (are you on BlueSky?). Your stories about growing up a farm kid are very revealing of a life city dwellers often don't consider. I appreciate that watching a fellow kid gut his first deer made you reconsider the value of hunting beautiful creatures as sport, for example. Your stories about riding the school bus are translatable to many of us - yes, moi - who are introverts and/or agoraphobic. I force myself to leave the house by buying tickets to concerts and so forth. I cannot fly on Southwest because of the way they board the plane. I must know where I am sitting before I get to the airport. So, don't change a thing due to my comments. If I was not getting good thought fodder, I would quietly unfollow you. (worry not)
Thank you so much for that nice comment! I've had those same feelings. When I first moved to Peru it was hard to get myself to leave my small room, even when beautiful young women were asking me to go. I'll have to explore those feelings in some writing soon. Those were tough times. I think buying tickets is a great tactic. I sometimes still make appointments with people just to force myself to go out. You are very kind, thanks again!
I have almost finished the novel I've been working on with my kids. Maybe I should bring that over here. I did already post the first 4 chapters, so why not?
Hi Walter, enjoying your Substack. I have a blog on Nonprofit Strategy, Racial Equity and Leadership (on Mailchimp and Squarespace) . I am weighing posting on Substack also. My professional work is consulting -- and I write too.

I agree very much with your political attitudes, but you're at risk of draining that river dry if you keep harping on it every day.

Is that the case here? Is there something else you want me to address? I’d be delighted to. Thanks for the thoughtful comment!

You’re very nice, I appreciate that very much!
I like the political comments but a little fairy dust doesn't hurt once in a while.

My posts that get the most response include vulnerability and a unique perspective. Here's a sample - https://www.therosscollective.com/blog/my-toughest-consulting-gig-and-the-surprising-lessons-it-taught-me. YMMV.
Yes, I think you should also post on Substack. There are some wonderful growth tools here. I recommended your newsletter!
Thank you!
I write and share for personal fulfillment, money when comes is a plus.
