Like so many, I feel overwhelmed, oppressed, and trapped. It feels like I'm back in my childhood, which was a nightmare. Now I do what I couldn't do then--I've joined a meditation group as well as a local Buddhist sangha, I invite friends over for coffee and I exercise. The only news I consume is the bbc. And yes I still wake up some nights feeling like it's the end of the world and the long life I expected to have may not happen. I try to be as kind as possible because everyone is suffering. Your essay boosted my morale. I thank you and wish safety for you and your family.
I’m so glad your wife is back safe. Things are getting darker in this country. I have told my daughter, who lives in Canada, not to come here- I will visit her or we will travel together to another country. I’ve seen some crazy American border agents on power trips. They treated me horribly before I got my green card; I don’t want one of them them hassling her.
We have some international trips coming up too, and I've been a bit worried. Let's see what each day brings. Glad your family is back in one spot together again.
Re: the vegetables--good for you! I like your "trick" and may try it myself, although I can't abide steamed vegetables plain. I sprinkle balsamic vinegar on them for a flavor boost! Also toppings like toasted sesame seeds or chopped herbs or crunchy fried onions (just a little). And, yes, paying more attention to each moment. Headed out now with the pup on this rainy spring day!
Glad your wife made it to Peru and back. Whew!! Can't upgrade. Fixed income and donated all I could for now. Keep on keeping on. We have to get this MF and all his toadies OUT. It's a constant darkness on the soul until he is gone, preferably in jail. Thanks.
Thank you Joanne! I totally understand the fixed income and I appreciate that you're here :) I'll keep doing every thing I can think of, and I'll spend the rest of my time thinking up new things to try!
Communication is necessary for us to have a connected feeling in this world. That's why I'm so encouraged when I see supportive comments from Canadians or Ukrainians on these sites. We're still connected, in spite of all the attempts to divide us.
Communication is a valuable thing. Anyone in a marriage or who has a family or friends knows that, but negotiation over a difference of viewpoints is a skill, and it needs to be deliberately developed. We have to find ways to be able to disagree while leaving everyone whole, holding respect in the midst and having the goal of understanding, of not unity, in mind. Afterall, we only have this one planet, and it's resources, to share with one another. It's just that there's been so many personal attacks when any seeming oppositional opinion has been offered to another that I feel we've forgotten how to simply talk to one another or have been to afraid to do so. But over the years of cultivating non-combative speech and attempting to neutralize pairs of heated comments on YouTube, while also infecting mere humanity into the mix, which is our common ground, I find most everyone wants to be heard and have their voice matter as well as most everyone wants to live in peace side by side with their neighbors. Not everyone has agreed with me, but often they do just slip away without further comment which I consider a "win." I don't need to convert everyone to my way of thinking, but I do hope to help them see their way clear of doing any (more)harm. So I'm so glad you're encouraging people to converse openly with you. I think we'd be better off if people take the risk and reach out, respectfully, and share their thoughts and give people the benefit of the doubt that they just might also be interested in being part of the conversation, if not the solution.
One thing that occurs to me is that we've lost our ability to TRUST - not only in others, but in ourselves. More than ever, in these times, we need to get still enough to be able to hear the truth of our inner voices and even that very quiet voice within that some of us call God or the Holy Spirit. When we walk in our truth and can trust that as our rudder we will want to harm no one, in particular, but want to stand for righteousness everywhere, and no obstacle will be too big. As the Bible says we will run and not grow weary.
I can only imagine how worried you were with your wife traveling out of the country. Of course, that would be a stressor for you! I'm very glad you have her back safe and sound. Adding to that a change in nutritional habits and money concerns you were really being challenged, ON TOP of what's going on in this country right now. I'm glad you got your heart center back. :)
I’m happy for you that your wife was able to see Cher family in Peru and returned safely with no problems getting through customs. I’m also half to hear that your nerve pain is less than last week. Living in constant vigilance can be exhausting on our nervous system.
There are still good family relationships that are integral to our everyday peace of mind. Take care of yourself and hope your puppy is okay!🌹
I am very happy that you are here and you are on Medium. As for Medium is the first place I started following you and reading your content. I've been on Medium since 2018, I migrated over to Substack when I realized that was where most of my favorite writers fled to, in mass I might add. After doing some deeper research on WHY? I found myself liking Substack much better for a few reasons, my favorite writers get more of my money, but mostly because I can respond directly to the author and I felt Medium was being more censored than years past. Right now, I don't want to be censored and as a woman I feel it all around me.
Later, looking at all the data (screen shots) coming from the writers, I hyper focused and trying to find out the reasons. Plus I could see the censoring, which I found odd and wanted to know why? Feeling frustrated and being that research is my best skill, I dove deeper because the writers complained about how Medium wasn't transparent enough.
That's when I found it! That Medium is owned by Alphabet, Inc. Who is that, well it's owned by Google. I found last years required public tax recordings online. Yep. I double checked with my tax attorney husband on what I was actually looking at. Sure enough, there was Medium. The document also showed over 600+ businesses that they had acquired and registered. I believe it was New Jersey or Rhode Island, one of 'those northeast states that require very little information'.
I was so so annoyed. But then everything made sense to me on why there were so many changes and so quiet about everything, when businesses are bought out like that, they either shut them down, or expect them to be at a certain profit margin, as I noticed after randomly selecting 30 of those businesses on the list to check out. There overlords expect much more profit, we all know this, so I reduced my subscription on Medium immediately, since I wanted to give more money to the actual writers and not to one of Googles acquired companies.
Lastly, recently I was asked to send in a survey on Medium, maybe everyone got it, no idea. But oh did I let them have it with two barrels, told them to pay their great writers better!! Told them as a reader, make it easier to find our favorite writers!! I also told them when I do decide to let go of my writings, it will be on Substack, NOT on Medium. I did thank them though for recently making it easier to find my favorite publications, a new recent improvement.
Ok, I didn't mean to rant...so much :) I too see new improvements on Medium. Just remember and beware, it's Google or Alphabet, Inc. one in the same. Which I believe is censored more than Substack. At least for now. Thanks for being here, happy to know your wife is safe and sound back into your arms. Hugs, D~
Thanks for that information! I didn't know that and I'm glad you found me here on Substack too :) Medium has been very good to me over the years, but things always change in the writing world. This substack is coming along nicely and I appreciate the power in this community! Thanks for your support!
Relieved she got home without incident. We are scared to travel right now.
I’ve completely given up on Boost. Nothing I’ve nommed has been accepted in ages. I assume I’ve been dropped from the program but haven’t even checked.
If you’re still able to nominate than you haven’t been dropped. The numbers are just lower than they used to be. I feel like they’re fading out the program which is a shame. Keep nominating though. I do my 20 a month. It only takes a second and some of them go through.
Glad your wife had a good trip and made it home safely. You are so right about clean healthy eating. Add in walking the dog daily adds more positive feelings of good health. Thanks for your writings. My very fixed income unfortunately keeps me s a free subscriber
