Keep Calm and Carry on America, Everything Is Going to be Fine
We are resilient and we are together. There are solutions to every problem.
Hello Friends,
I know that everyone is feeling a lot of anxiety. I'm feeling it too. So, today I wanted to offer some words of encouragement that will perhaps help fortify you and give you the strength you need to keep going.
Everything is going to be fine.
There are times when we can feel overcome by negativity. There are times when it feels like all hope is lost. Believe me when I tell you that those moments are always temporary. Good things lie in our path out of sight, just around the bend.
Always.
Hope exists even when it seems lost. The sun will rise. You can depend on that.
I know that everybody has been working very hard in the effort to get Kamala elected. The stakes feel impossibly high. The rhetoric that has been spewed and approved by the GOP is truly heartbreaking. To make matters worse, they always try to blame the other side for the problems they create.
This morning as I went to drop off my children at school, the voice on the radio began to yet again repeat the widely accepted misinformation of this election cycle. I was confronted with the choice of listening and becoming angry, or turning off the radio in an attempt to enjoy my morning.
Fortunately, I'm still the master of my immediate environment. I reached down and tapped the button. The radio fell to silence. My dog sat in the passenger's seat regarding the road. He was looking for squirrels. He doesn’t care who the president is.
We should learn something from him.
The golden rays of an autumn morning feel as thick as a cloud. The brittle leaves completely hid the sidewalk from view. A child attempted to get to school by riding his bicycle, but he couldn't see the path.
I remember when I lived that day, so long ago, back when I was a child. Riding your bike to school is one of the greatest joys of life. The moment the bell rings, and you feel your hands close upon the soft rubber of the handlebar grips, you get a sense of freedom that's rarely replicated at any other moment in your life.
This memory came as a consequence of turning off the lies.
I think it is important to be mindful of the significance of our vote. At the same time, we have to be mindful of our own mental health. In my home state of Wisconsin, early voting starts today. In your state, you can find out when and were you can vote early by doing a google search.
It’s easy. Do it:
Early voting is the way to go. You can stop off at lunch and get it done. Once you’ve voted, you’ll feel a weight lifted from your shoulders.
It’s silly to waste energy worrying about things you can’t control.
Voting is something you can control.
This is the main thing you can do.
Drive down to wherever early voting is offered and make sure your ballot is cast. Don’t wait until November 5th. You only vote once, but give yourself multiple chances to cast your vote in case something unexpected happens. If you try to vote on Tuesday and you run into traffic, that’s fine. You’ve got plenty of time. Try again on Wednesday. Try again every day until the job is done.
Don’t wear your campaign gear to vote. Keep them guessing. Just be discreet, go in, get it done and leave. Nobody, not your wife, not your spouse, has a right to see who you voted for, not your husband.
Keep it simple. Make your selections and put the ballot in the box. If you live in Wisconsin, you can go to this page, put in your address, and you can find where early voting is offered.
If you live in Wisconsin, you can go to this page and see what’s on the ballot. That’s important! You want to be informed. The Presidential race isn’t the only one that will have an impact on our lives. The down ballot questions are important too.
For example, in Wisconsin, the Republicans are always trying to push through bizarrely worded amendments to the Constitution. Here’s the latest example:
This question is irrelevant because it’s already the law that ONLY United States citizens can vote. I grow suspicious whenever Republicans propose changes to the Constitution, and I always vote against them. There’s no point to this. I suspect they’re only trying to support their widely propagated misinformation about voter fraud.
I would vote YES to an amendment that says nobody who participated in insurrection against the US government should be allowed to run for office, hold office, or appear on any ballot. But Republicans don’t propose changes like that.
In case you’re curious, here’s my ballot:
After these races, there are a bunch of county contests.
Even if you’re in the state of Wisconsin, your ballot might look different. Whatever state you’re in, you need to check your ballot. Again, do this:
We’ve been right to build up the stakes of the 2024 election. I feel that by voting for Democrats all down the ballot, we have a wonderful chance of improving our society. We have a tremendous opportunity to ensure a healthy and prosperous future for our children.
The media has completely failed to educate the general public on what a great job the Biden/Harris presidency has done. If you are fortunate enough to have retirement holdings, go check your balances. Now compare those balances to what they were when trump was in office.
You’re doing a lot better today than you were in 2020. I guarantee it. There’s been a lot of talk about inflation, but very little accountability about why inflation happens. The simple truth, friends, is that when billionaires get together and rig the system so that they might prosper, the rest of us have to pay for it. That’s exactly what trump’s first presidency achieved, and that’s what we’ll get if he wins again.
We’re on the precipice of taking a great step. Whether it is a step forward with Harris, or a step backwards with trump remains to be seen. But we must remember that no matter what happens, our work will not be done. We will not be defeated if the election doesn’t go our way, we’ll only be temporarily hindered.
Remember that our cause is right, and our ideas will be implemented eventually.
Even if we win, it will not be enough. There is more work to do. So one way or another, we’ll still be working on November 6th. I hope that we’ll be buoyed by victory, but if it is not victory, we will be strengthened by resolve.
What we won’t do is quit.
The one essential quality of the MAGA movement is that they are both lazy and incompetent. They are doomed to crumble under their own weight. The election is not the end of the story. There are many cards to play no matter how the chips might fall. Don’t allow yourself to be overwhelmed by fretting about hypothetical eventualities.
Nobody gets sworn in on November 6th. We’ll have months to respond as needed, and to do what is in the best interest of protecting our families. Don’t panic. Don’t fret. Give yourself a moment to take a deep breath, and then respond to the reality you’re presented with, rather than the illusions of your worst fears.
So please friends, cast your vote and then celebrate. Allow yourself a reprieve from the anxiety that’s hounded you for this election cycle and beyond. Voting is the most important thing.
The road to justice is a long journey. We’ll be fighting this battle until our last day. Along the way, take time to celebrate the small victories.
Get up, find your voting location, fill in the bubble next to Harris/Walz, turn in your ballot, and then pat yourself on the back. Take a moment to feel good about what you did.
You stood up to a tyrant. You’ve done something remarkable. You’re on the right side of history. One way or another, the rest of history will catch up to you eventually.

It’s 5 am and I woke up with worrying. I cannot believe the constant lies and projection that come from the other side. Playing out a Trump win in my mind is utterly terrifying.
Then, the first thing read when I started my day was this. Thank you.
We are all in this together, my vote has been cast and my postcards to voters in swing states have been sent. I’m going to go enjoy some coffee now.
I've already made my choices for our national/state/area/local races through vote411.org and printed my cheat sheet to take to the poll with me later today. I think you're right that I'll feel much better once my vote is cast. Thanks for the reminder that the world will still be beautiful and my loved ones will still be lovable on Nov. 6.
