Honestly, since I am 58 and live in Kkk blood red usa, I am not going to my 40 year reunion. I see their more outgoing racist comments. Sadly I went the same school system all 12 years. I attended all others. BUT not this year. If I overheard a racist comment, this lady would come unglued! It is my age bracket that help cause the problem. I went to all white schools. My family are racist. BUT I KNEW THAT WAS WRONG FROM EARLY LIFE!

I would probably beat their ass. But my bashful husband would be in shock. Based on my health conditions and the potential for an upcoming brain surgery along with a bunch of other problems with my organs, I don’t think it’s healthy for me to go. They don’t deserve my presence. I don’t want to be in the company of fucking evil racist people! Plus, my family is LGBTQ and I have to fight for their rights. Those same racist people don’t like gay people either, since my son-in-law is trans. I cannot even have good conversations with these type of people.

Be an example of decency. Saw a lot of decency in Mount Horeb and Dodgeville on Saturday.

Yes! Sometimes that's hard to remember with all the jerks out there, but yes, decency is the only answer.

I can relate . I live in Fl ,the Retirement state . I see people in their 50s and 60s and older acting like foolish adolescents every day . They still go out to their bars and restaurants partying like they did when they were 20 years old. Still having the same conversations they had when they were 20 , taking pictures of each other’s food for Facebook . Acting drunk and disorderly , obnoxious loud and entitled . Talking about how their music was great and how woke liberals are what is wrong with this country.

Yeah, you can always tell the entitlement of money. It's frustrating.

I am also in Florida but luckily I tend to keep to myself being in my ,id 70"s. Most of the people went to school with in my grade were going to the No Kings Rallies. We are not like those in their 50 60 age group. I noticed early on that th ones 10 or more years behind us were not as self motivated and more "entitled" group. Sorry your kids had to be there and your wife. but you are definitely raising your kids right. be sure to tell them not to listen or feel they are being scolded by such people. Make sure they know they are string women and I am sure your wife is raising the same way. Enjoy your summer with the kids

I like to think that despicable behavior would not happen on my community's pickleball courts but I'm probably wrong. I'm sorry you had that experience with your family and I hope if I observed such behavior I would say something to the jerks. That is an unacceptable way to treat people.

I was stunned to see how racist my little community was. I grew up only with white people, and you don't see how racist America is with that as your upbringing. But this country has a serious issue with bigotry. Thanks for your kind comment!

The thing I have as capital is my white entitlement- and I use it as often as I can to stand up to the asshole MAGA people- they hate it when a white woman scolds them. From a social worker’s perspective- shame is the last resort - but I’m happy to use it on my peers whenever I can 👍🏻

I am so sorry your family has to put up with that. I just don't understand that level of hatred for a family just trying to have fun.

Congratulations on your actions with the entitled idiots. As a retired school teacher who worked in a predominantly Spanish-speaking high school in California, teaching History, English, Digital Design, and Audio Video Production, I always stressed the importance of inclusivity, openness, and acceptance. It also helped than I am queer and out. My students knew they always had a safe place to come before school, at lunch, or after school.

I want to say one more thing: Too many of my students played dumb. One, they wanted to look cool. Being smart is not cool. Doing school work and doing well, which included reading, meant having less fun. Keep up the good work. Working hard in school and doing her best is fun. She'll usually meet people of better quality. Keep reading. Read, read, and read and enjoy the places she will visit, the characters she'll meet, the lessons of life, including empathy, the knowledge she will gain, and the fun she can have. There is nothing more fun than discussing books with other readers. I hope you have another great day out with your kids playing pickleball soon.

Re: Since when did entitlement become the dominant personality trait of the United States?

Always has been amongst a majority of white folk - as the rest of the world has noticed when we travel. It has been commented on for decades.

Ha! I have an immigrant family in an intolerant society. This article isn't about you. It's about my experience. Why is it that you want to make it about you?
